Frequently Asked Questions

Laser Hair Removal

How does it work?

The laser light energy coverts to heat and passes through the outer layers of skin and is selectively absorbed by the hairs dark pigment in the hair follicle. This cuts the supply of blood going to the hair follicle and destroys the root without damaging the surrounding cells, inhibiting growth. Our Cynosure Elite™ Lasers are high-powered, dual wavelength systems that deliver high energy for faster results. Using both Alexandrite and ND-Yag wavelengths our lasers can treat all skin types, including darker and Asian skin types. Your therapist will perform a patch test prior to treatment to calibrate the laser to the most suitable settings for your skin type. It is important to note that lasers are effective in removing hairs, which are in the growing (Anagen) phase. Follicles in the second phase (Categen), and third phase (Telagen), will not be affected since the dermal papilla, or root, of the follicle is not yet attached to the follicle itself. Due to the hair growth cycle, additional treatments will be required once the dormant hairs reach the Anagen phase.

What can I expect when I attend my appointment?

We request that you shave the area being treated the day before your appointment. You will be provided with eye protection to wear during the laser treatment and the therpaist will mark out the area to be treated in a grid pattern to ensure every millimetre is covered. The laser hand piece is then worked over the entire area. laser hair removal is predominantly painless, the feeling can be compared to an elastic band snapping against the skin. A powerful cooler works alongside the laser, taking the majority of the heat out of the skin. Aloe Vera gel is applied post treatment. In between Laser Hair Removal treatments you are free to shave the area as you wish.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after treatment there may be some mild redness and swelling around the hair follicles, this will generally last less than a few hours. For 24 hours post-treatment you should avoid heat treatments, saunas and direct sun exposure. We will give you a post treatment advice leaftlet when you attend initial consultaion which explains post care advice for all of our treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required will vary depending on various factors, such as: the thickness of the hair, the area being treated, the individual, and your hair growth cycle. Most clients usually require a minimum course of 6-8 treatments. To ensure that as many hairs as possible are treated in the growth phase, there tends to be a 4-6-week interval between each treatment. Top-up sessions are often required periodically.

What results can I expect to see?

Many clients see a slight ‘shedding’ of hair after their first session but we advise that you will start to see a real, noticeable reduction after your third treatment. Some hairs are naturally thicker and have deeper roots which meaning they can be a little more stubborn to treat, meaning that they may take a little longer to get noticeable results.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation

How does it work?

Laser collagen rejuvenation works by using a wavelength that will stimulate collagen in the deeper layers of the skin leaving the skin supported and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Using a specific wavelength which is the ND YAG 1064nm the laser targets the dermal layer of the skin to induce the collagen production by heating up the cells that create the scaffolding in the deep layers.

What can I expect when I attend my appointment?

You will be provided with eye protection to wear during your laser treatment. The treatment itself is quite relaxing with a warming sensation on the skin suface. Your therapist will treat the area of concern. Once the treatment iscomplete post treatment products will be applied to soothe and protect your skin.

Are there any side effects?

You skin may be a little pink post treatment and will feel warm. We will give you a post treatment advice form when you attend your inital cosultaion which explains post care advice for all of our treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

A course of 3-6 treatments are usually recommended to achieve the best results which will be completed every 2-4 weeks apart.

What results can I expect to see?

After one session your skin will feel plumper and the skin will feel more supported as well as a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As the collagen production is always breaking down more than one treatment will be needed to achieve desired results.

Skin Peels

How does it work?

Skin peels work by exfoliating the outer layers of skin, removing dead cells and revealing fresh new cells underneath. It is a much deeper exfoliation than that of typical exfoliating creams and lotions used at home. Peels also help to stimulate the body’s own natural collagen production and can improve elasticity.

What can I expect when I attend my appointment?

Skin is cleansed with a prepping agent that removes excess oils so the chemical peel solution can cut through the skins barrier to get down to where it needs to. One or more of the liquid chemical solutions are then applied to of your skin an area at a time using a brush. Your skin will tingle and feel quite warm – this is the active ingredient’s doing their job! If necessary further passes of the peel will be applied to achieve desired results. Once the peel has been left for the optimum amount time the skin is neutralised. Post treatment products will then be applied to soothe and protect your skin.

Are there any side effects?

Skin will be slightly red or pink immediately after treatment depending on your skin type. Some peels can lead to light swelling of the treated area or peeling of the skin a few days after the treatment. Peeling will vary depending on the strength of peel used and the condition of your skin. We will give you a post treatment advice form when you attened your inital consultaion which explains postcare advice for all of our treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

We recommend a course of six peels with a treatment every 2-4 weeks. Maintenance treatments every 4-6 weeks will ensure results last and skin remains bright and clear.

What results can I expect to see?

Improvements can be noticed after just one treatment and after a course of treatment skin will be smoother, brighter and more refined.

Dermaroller

How does it work?

Dermaroller also know as Microneedling uses small needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. The process involves using small needles to create tiny punctures in the skin which triggers the bodies natural wound healing response to renew skin cells. As the skin heals, it produces collagen and triggers elastin, this results in plumped, rejuvenated skin. This helps to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, open pores and rough skin. Creating tiny punctures also creates superficial micro-channels, which allows topical serums, and creams to be absorbed more effectively into the skin. The action from the needle also improves the blood circulation in the skin resulting in more radiant, glowing skin.

What can I expect when I attend my appointment?

Prior to your treatment your therapist will apply a topical anaesthetic cream to make the treatment comfortable. A sterile roller which has many microneedles and a needle legth of 1.5mm is used for the face and neck areas will be used. The Dermaroller is gently glided across the skin in one direction then another until the entire treatment area has been covered. Once the whole area has been treated you skin will feel tight and warm, your therapist will apply post treatment products to soothe and protect your skin.

Are there any side effects?

Skin will look slightly pink to moderately red after treatment but this should settle within a few hours. Fibroblasts – the cells that synthesize new collagen – are active for up to as much as one year after just one treatment. New collagen and stimulated elastin produce younger, healthier, plumper, and firmer skin, effectively reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars for an overall better tone and texture. We will give you a post treatment advice form when you attend your inital cosultaion which explains post care advice for all of our treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically a series of 3-6 treatments is recommended, depending upon your area of correction or concern. Treatments are usually spaced at 4-week intervals. Deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, or any type of scars, usually require 6 or more treatments to achieve the desired results.

What results can I expect to see?

Plumping effects can be seen almost immediately, however the natural healing process takes time, so it can take up to six weeks before you see significant results – although some improvements can be seen much sooner. Microneedling improves skin texture and reduces the appearance of wrinkles, regenerates tissue, improves the appearance of scars, reduces the size of pores, and reduces the appearance of stretch marks

Microdermabrasion

How does it work?

Over the course of your Microdermabrasion treatments a wand delivering afine jet of abrasive crystals willbe passed overthe skin. Dead slin particles will be abraded away and a vaccum action will remove the debris. The dual action will both resurface the skin and stimulate the blood flow, encouraging the skin to rejuvenate itself and produce collagen and elastin. The intensity of the treatment can be increased - reaching to deeper layers andsucceffully removing acne scaring, lifting pigmentation and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

What can I expect when I attend my appointment?

You will be provided with eye protection to wear during your Microdermabrasion treatment. The treatment is pain free, patiens decribe the sensation as an intense exfolitation with a vacuum. following your treatment your skin will feel smoother, and feel warm post treatment.

Are there any side effects?

After your treatment your skin may feel tight with mild rednes, this has usually subsided withing an hour. We will give you a post treatment advice form when you attend your inital cosultaion which explains post care advice for all of our treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

We would advise a course of between 6-9, however your therapist will talk this through with you following your initial consultation. People with acne or acne scarring might need more treatments and we recommend a monthly maintenance treatment after each course has finished to help maintain the results achieved. Although Microdermabrasion is also a brilliant one of treatment to rejuvenate your skin.

What results can I expect to see?

Microdermabrasion is quick, convenient and painless, immediately restoring younger, smoother looking skin without the need for chemicals, lasers or injectables. Microdermabrasion will stimulate the production of collagen, something we lose gradually as we age. This stimulation and skin’s renewal improves the condition of the skin’s surface – helping to target ageing skin, stretch marks, pigmentation, cellulite, dry and dehydrated skin and acne scarring over a course of treatments.

Laser Pigment Removal

How does it work?

The Alexandrite 755nm produces a wavelength of high energy light, which is then converted into heat energy. This can target the specific area of pigmentation because the laser is absorbed only by cells containing an excessive concentration of pigmentation. This causes efficient destruction while leaving the surrounding tissue undamaged. The pigmentation then scabs over and gently flakes off over a period on average of 7-10 days.

What can I expect when I attend my appointment?

You will be provided with eye protection to wear during your laser treatment. As with most laser therapies there may be some slight discomfort during the treatment. The spot-size of the laser beam is small and direct meaning it can rtarget specific areas of consern quickly. The sensation can vary but most people describe it asa very quick "zap".

Are there any side effects?

The area may swell slightly and feel hot (like a sunburn) for a while after laser treatment, and it might be red and swollen for the rest of the day. Scabs may form on the treated area, which will fall off in time. Brown spots can become darker within a day, they will fade over about 12 to 18 days. We will give you a post treatment advice form when you attened your inital consultaion which explains postcare advice for all of our treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

Most pigmented lesions will sometime only require 1-2 treatments to be completely removed. Darker, deeper and larger pigmented lesions may require aditional treatments. This will be explained during your intial consultation.

What results can I expect to see?

Everyone heals at various rates depending on the depth of treatment, the particular areas treated and your own health and condition. Noticeable results are typically seen in a few weeks and darker or pigmented patches will be noticeably lighter or completely removed.

Laser Thread Vein Removal

How does it work?

The procedure uses an Nd:YAG Laser system that focuses a beam of laser light energy toward the vein. When the laser passes through the skin it heats the vein, coagulates the blood inside the vessel and causes it to collapse. The body’s natural waste process then carries away all the broken down blood vessels. Advancements in Laser technologies allow delivery of a precise dosage of energy to each blood vessel without injuring to the skin.

What can I expect when I attend my appointment?

You will be provided with eye protection to wear during your laser treatment. As with most Laser therapies there may be some slight discomfort during the treatment. The spot-size of the beam is small and direct meaning it can target specific areas of concern quickly. The sensation can vary but most people describe it as a very quick pin prick.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience some bruising or swelling after treatment, Some thread veins can also appear darker post treatment, this is a good reaction as shows the treatment has worked effectively. This should subside within 72 hours. We will give you a post treatment advice form when you attend your inital cosultaion which explains post care advice for all of our treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

Some veins will be removed immediately but results depend upon the condition of the veins and may require multiple sessions. It’s worth noting that new veins may appear at some point in the future. If this is the case further treatment may be required.
